INTRODUCING YARRA WALK
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the average Australian takes 7,400 steps per day, which is almost 3,000 less than the recommended 10,000. With only 1 in 5 Australians hitting the mark, it’s time for us to make a conscious effort to get out of our homes and offices and hit the pavement to increase our heartrates.
How?
From dragon boat racing to the outdoor gym next to Buluk Park, there are plenty of ways to increase your step count and stick to your health goals in the new year. We’re adding a new one to the list with a brand-new waterfront trail being built between now and 2025 – and phase 1 has now opened!
Tell me more…
Yarra Walk is a unique over-water pedestrian experience that will stretch 500m from Bourke Dock, opposite Library at the Dock, to Eco Park at the western tip of Collins Wharf.
Once complete, Yarra Walk will complete a walking circuit around the precinct with stunning waterfront views of the Yarra River, Bolte Bridge and the Melbourne city skyline. Not only is it a great way to squeeze some exercise into your day, you’ll be able to also clear your head and explore the city at the same time.
Can I cycle?
You’ll be happy to know that Yarra Walk is a 5.5-metre-wide shared zone for cyclists and pedestrians. So, whether you like to travel on two feet or two wheels, there is plenty of room for you and your four-legged friend.
Sounds great, when can I visit?
While the entire project won’t be complete until 2025, the first 68m of Yarra Walk is open to the public.
Victoria Harbour and the City of Melbourne would love the local community to come and enjoy Yarra Walk and make the most of the great outdoors this summer. With beautiful panoramic views of the water, you’ll feel like you’ve escaped the hustle and bustle of city life, despite being only a 5 minute tram away from the CBD.
Anything else?
The Collins Wharf project is celebrating the recent opening of new residential building No.1 Collins Wharf. By 2025, a number of other new public green spaces will also open in Victoria Harbour.
